Accident data

NTSG has brought together national records of tree-related fatalities and serious injuries. These records offer clear evidence and context for understanding risk and strengthening tree safety practice.

NTSG Records

Together, these datasets provide a long-term view of incidents, species involvement, legal outcomes, and patterns that inform good management. They reflect years of careful research, drawing on inquest findings, media reports, and public records to support landowners, managers, and practitioners in making well-judged, proportionate decisions about tree safety across the UK. The data is annually updated.

Accident data

The NTSG is very grateful to Mark Daniels (Adviser on visitor and occupational safety at historic buildings, parks gardens and countryside), who has collected and compiled this data. Mark was an original NTSG member representing the National Trust (NT) during the development of the first edition of the NTSG guidance. Since leaving NT he has continued to diligently collect and collate the data which provides an essential overview of actual harm to people caused by trees in the UK.
